This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information collected and recorded by the SQL Cell Google Sheets add-on (“Service”) and how we use it. SQL Cell is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how the add-on operates.

Who We Are

SQL Cell is operated by Alphaverse Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 13758396), registered office 7 Bell Yard, London, England, WC2A 2JR. Alphaverse Limited is the data controller for the limited personal data described in this policy.

By using SQL Cell, you consent to this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.

Hosting and Accessibility

This Privacy Policy is hosted on our verified domain sqlcell.com, where SQL Cell’s homepage is also hosted. The Privacy Policy is linked directly from the homepage and can be accessed through the Google Workspace Marketplace listing for SQL Cell.

Overview of Data Handling

SQL Cell is designed to run entirely in your browser. All processing, including query execution and analysis, is performed locally in your browser using DuckDB-WASM.

No External Data Storage: SQL Cell has no backend. We operate no servers that receive your spreadsheet contents, your queries, or your query results, and we cannot see any of them.
No Visibility of User Actions: We do not track, collect, or monitor any user actions performed within the add-on.
You choose what your browser fetches: If a query references a remote file or database (over HTTP or S3), your browser requests it directly from the host you named. That request goes to that third party, not to us. The add-on also loads the DuckDB-WASM engine from the public jsDelivr CDN when the sidebar opens.
Least Privilege: SQL Cell requests access to only the spreadsheet you have it open in — not to your other spreadsheets, and not to the rest of your Google Drive. This is enforced by the permission Google grants, not just by our own restraint. See Permissions Requested.

We do not share, transfer, or disclose your information to third parties for purposes other than those provided in this policy. Specifically:

SQL Cell does not transfer, sell, or share your data with advertisers or any third-party organizations.
SQL Cell does not disclose your data to external entities unless required by law or with your explicit consent.

All operations involving your data occur locally within your browser and are not accessible to SQL Cell or its developers.

Permissions Requested

When installing the SQL Cell add-on, you will be prompted to authorize the following permissions:

See, edit, create, and delete only the specific Google Sheets spreadsheet that you use this application with (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets.currentonly): This permission allows SQL Cell to write query results from the sidebar into the spreadsheet you have open, and to create the named ranges that let the add-on show you which query produced which block of cells.
Display and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.container.ui): This permission allows SQL Cell to show its sidebar, which is where the editor runs and where your queries execute.

Google additionally includes two basic sign-in permissions in every Google Workspace Marketplace installation, which you will also see listed:

See your primary Google Account email address (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email)
See your personal info, including any personal info you’ve made publicly available (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.profile)

These are added by the Marketplace itself, not requested by SQL Cell. The add-on does not read, use, store or transmit your email address or profile. Its code contains no call that retrieves them — there is nothing in SQL Cell that needs to know who you are, because it has no accounts, no server and no per-user state.

The Sheets permission is limited to the spreadsheet you have open

This is enforced by Google, not merely promised by us. spreadsheets.currentonly grants access to the one document the add-on is running in, and to nothing else. SQL Cell cannot enumerate, open, read, or modify any other spreadsheet in your Google Drive, because the permission it holds does not reach them.

Earlier versions of SQL Cell requested the broader .../auth/spreadsheets permission — “see, edit, create, and delete all your Google Sheets spreadsheets” — which was approved by Google in December 2024 but granted far more access than the add-on ever used. It was narrowed in August 2026. Writing results is measurably slower under the narrow permission; we consider that the right trade.

Alongside this:

SQL Cell never transmits spreadsheet contents to us. There is nowhere for them to go; we run no servers.
The add-on’s source is available for inspection, so this can be checked rather than taken on trust.

Information We Collect

SQL Cell does not collect or store any personally identifiable information or user content from your spreadsheets. All operations and data processing occur locally in your browser environment.

If you contact us directly (e.g., for support or feedback), we may receive additional information such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message. This information is used solely for responding to your inquiries.

Analytics and Tracking

Our Website uses Ahrefs Web Analytics for anonymous analytics. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It does not collect personally identifiable information and does not track you across other websites. Aggregate data such as page views, referrer, country and device type is used exclusively to improve the website. See the Ahrefs privacy policy for their practices.

SQL Cell add-on usage itself is not tracked or monitored.

Retention of Data

Since SQL Cell does not collect or store your data during usage of the add-on, there is no data retention related to your spreadsheet content or queries.

For inquiries or support requests submitted to us directly, we retain correspondence data only as long as necessary to address your concerns or as required by applicable laws.

User Data Protection Rights

Since SQL Cell does not process or store any personal data during add-on usage, most privacy rights (such as data access or deletion requests) do not apply to the add-on itself.

For any personal information you voluntarily share with us during inquiries, you have the following rights:

Access, update, or delete your data: Contact us to know what data we hold about you or request changes.
Rectification: Correct any inaccurate or incomplete information.
Withdraw consent: Revoke your consent for correspondence data where applicable.

Children’s Information

SQL Cell does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information, and the add-on is not intended for use by children under 13 without parental supervision. If you believe your child has provided personal information through a support inquiry, please contact us, and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Compliance with Google’s Policies

SQL Cell fully adheres to Google’s User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. SQL Cell does not use data for advertising purposes, share data with unauthorized third parties, or engage in any practices that conflict with Google’s policies.
